About Us: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why isn't the Museum open year-round?
A: The Union Pacific Depot, which houses the Museum, was designed to be open during the summer months when the Union Pacific Railroad provided train service to West Yellowstone. The tracks between West Yellowstone and Ashton, Idaho were completely obliterated by snow in the winter, preventing trains from reaching West Yellowstone. The building was not equipped with furnaces and heating systems that would have made the building habitable in the winter.

Q: I know I ordered a brick. Why isn't it there yet?
A:
To get a large enough quantity, brick orders are only placed once a year. Due to the climate in West Yellowstone, bricks can only be installed between mid-June and mid-September. If you ordered a brick before May 2010, it is already installed. If you ordered a brick after May 2010, It will be installed by early Spring 2012. If you think you ordered a brick before May 2010 and you cannot find it in front of the Museum, please contact our staff.
